AMC To Open IMAX Theater in Downtown Disneyland Anaheim

AMC 12 Theatres Downtown Disney IMAXAnaheim’s AMC 12 Theatres at Downtown Disney will soon get an IMAX theatre! The news was shared earlier this week when IMAX and AMC Theatres announced an expanded partnership which includes eight new IMAX installations in the United States.

The opening date for the new IMAX screen has not been announced, but the IMAX press release says that at least three of the new IMAX theatres will open by the end of 2012.

We speculate that AMC will convert one of the existing 12 theatres in the Anaheim location, rather than building a thirteenth theatre, since space is so limited. It also would save them the trouble of renaming the location.

Years ago, the AMC 12 had a moment of fame when it was used for the Princess Diaries 2 premiere. It remains a popular destination for locals and visitors, especially on weekends.
