I’m originally from southern California, so the idea of playing in the snow is something that still seems like a treat. I remember the first time it snowed after we moved to Oregon. My wife and I stood out there in the snow taking pictures to send back to our friends (and I’m sure our neighbors were laughing at us at the time). A lot has changed over the years, but our family always looks forward to winter and opportunities to spend some time in the snow.
Park City, Utah caught my attention because it is the home of the annual Sundance Film Festival. It was the site of 14 events during the 2002 Olympic Winter Games, so it is safe to say the town is a great place to experience some winter fun.
There are three big resorts in Park City: The Canyons Resort (the third largest ski resort in the United States), Park City Mountain Resort (celebrating its 50th anniversary), and Deer Valley Resort (host of the Visa Freestyle Ski International World Cup). There are about 100 lodging properties in the area as well, which includes multi-family private homes, bed and breakfast inns, condominiums, and full service hotels.
The Utah Olympic Park is on our list of things to do during the trip. The park offers free admission to watch athletes train and there is a museum with items from the 2002 Olympic Winter Games. I’m going to do my best to convince my family to join me on “the comet” which is the bobsled ride that takes you down the Olympic bobsled track at 80 miles per hour and up to 5 G’s of force. Fortunately, there is an experienced bobsled pilot who does all the work so I can focus on hanging on for dear life.
Park City has a lot of quaint shops and dining. The snow makes the town look incredible, which should make a nice backdrop for our family photos. We are planning to visit Park City in February, which will give us a prime opportunity to try out the winter activities. We are looking forward to the visit and the chance to spend some time together as a family.
