Park City Mountain Resort is one of Utah’s most family friendly winter retreats. I was able to spend some time at the resort during our Utah trip. I had a blast skiing and was impressed with all of the family activities like the Alpine Coaster, Flying Eagle Zip Line, and Kids Apres Parties.
After a few days of ski lessons, I was beginning to feel confident in my ability to get around the resort on my own. More than half of Park City Mountain Resort’s 3,300 acres are rated for beginner and intermediate skiers, which meant much of the resort was accessible for my skill level. Park City Mountain Resort is also the only place around where you can ski at night. Most of the resorts shut down the lifts around 4:00, but Park City keeps the illuminated ski areas open well after the sun sets.
I did not get a chance to try the terrain parks at the resort, but I could see that they were very popular. The moguls are a big thing at the resort, which I learned is an area with a bunch of bumps in the snow that skiers and snowboarders can zip around. After we got back home, I watched the moguls Olympics events that we had saved on our DVR, which made me wish that I had tried them while in Utah. For the more adventurous, the resort has two pipes, the Eagle Superpipe (which hosted the 2002 Olympic Winter Games) and the Merrill Minipipe. The resort has four terrain parks which are designed for various snowboarding skill levels.
Getting to Park City Mountain Resort is really easy. We flew on Delta, which has several daily nonstop flights from Portland into Salt Lake City. Park City is about a 35-minute drive from the airport and there are several car service options available if you don’t want to drive in the snow (which is what we did). Once you are in Park City, you can just use the city’s free bus transportation system to get around. You really don’t need a rental car.
Park City Mountain Resort has several deals going on that combine lodging and lift tickets. During our visit, we stayed in a condo at the Silver King Hotel, from which we could just ski right over to the resort. The location is great because of the proximity to Park City’s historic Main Street, which has several places for shopping and dining. We even found an ice skating rink while exploring the shops adjacent to our hotel and Park City Mountain Resort.
Snowasis, one of the resort’s signature family events, is currently taking place and runs through March 30. Snowasis includes activities like a carnival, on-mountain scavenger hunts, s’mores roasting, snow bowling and live music. The resort is consistently rated as one of North America’s top-ranked family winter destinations and with these kinds of activities it is easy to see why.
With all of the family-friendly amenities, it is easy to feel like a kid again at Park City Mountain Resort. My family had a great time and are already looking forward to our next visit.
