I used to love it when my grandfather would open the back of his pocket watch and show me how the gears moved inside. Mode Media sent me the Moto 360 watch to review and I was reminded of why timepieces have endured as an accessory for all these years. Timepieces have a certain elegance that make them fashionable, as well as functional, no matter if they hang from a chain or if they are strapped to your wrist.
Watches are having a revival lately, thanks in part to an interest in health tracking, but also from just how far the technology has come. Modern digital watches are losing their bulk and can do more when they connect to our smartphones. The Moto 360 is a great example of how sleek, stylish, and functional modern watches have become. The Moto 360 not only looks great on your wrist, but it also keeps you connected in ways that watches never could before.
Modern Design
Moto 360 comes in a range of styles that you can’t find with other smart watches on the market. I have the dark metal band, which I like because of the sleek, modern look. There is a lighter version of the metal band, if you prefer a brushed aluminum look, and slim metal bands for a more minimalist look. Moto 360 also has Horween leather bands in stone and black colors, which contrast nicely with the watch face.
One of the neat things about a digital watch is that you can change the face as easily as you can change the wallpaper on your phone. I am using one of the traditional chronograph watch faces. But it is simple to switch that for anything else you could want. It is neat how you can change the whole look with just a few taps on the screen.
Staying Connected
Of course, mos people wear a watch because they are functional as well. I travel a lot for work, both locally and to several trade shows throughout the year. Moto 360 shows updates for text messages, calendar alerts (which I use a lot), and email. I’ve found that it often is easier to just glance at my watch to see what is going on, than to pull out my phone, unlock the screen, and then pull up the notification.
There are many times when I am forced to multitask while walking. Usually this means trying to type on my phone while crossing a crowded convention floor. Or have you ever tried to look up your flight status while walking through the airport? You can do it, but you also have pretty good odds of bumping into someone or dropping your phone. Moto 360 has voice control, which lets you do things like send text messages, check the weather, and search the web with just your voice. So far, I have been impressed with how well it can pick up my voice, even in places with lots of background noise.
Staying Fit
There is a lot packed into the Moto 360 and the health tracking features are really nice. You can use Moto 360 to track distance covered, steps taken, your heart rate, calories burned, and progress toward health goals. When most health trackers look like a thick rubber strap, it is nice to still get all of that functionality in a sleek and stylish design.
One of the hidden gems about the Moto 360 is how it charges. Instead of having to deal with a charging cable, the Moto 360 uses a small wireless charger. I just set the charger on my nightstand and used it as an alarm clock. I thought this was a really smart design choice and I was impressed that the wireless charger was included in the box. In my opinion, it made the Moto 360 feel like a premium product because you could tell a lot of thought went into the design and functionality.
You can get a Moto 360 starting at $249. The round watch face is unlike any other smart watch on the market and the variety of styles means you can easily make it your own. Moto 360 is a fashionable watch that will keep you connected wherever you travel.
