It’s true. Adults are allowed to have some fun on a Disney vacation. It isn’t always about the children.
During my family’s last visit to Disneyland, my wife and I took time to have a date night. One of the benefits of staying at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel is that it offers licensed child care services at Pinocchio’s Workshop.
For a few bucks, we get piece of mind that our son is safe while we’re out to dinner. And for all those who feel bad about leaving their children for a few hours, see if you still feel that way when you pick them up. The children have such a good time that they often don’t want to leave.
The Napa Rose is the high end restaurant at Disney’s Grand Californian and it is my choice for a nice night out. One of the lesser known parts of the restaurant is the lounge, where you can grab a glass of wine and order up a cheese platter. There is also an outdoor fire pit with some fantastic views of Grizzly River Run. You can’t go wrong by having dinner here.
The one challenge I had with a date night during vacation is getting cleaned up. Let’s face it, walking around the Disney parks is anything but a relaxing vacation. Especially during the summer, you can leave Disneyland smelling like a swamp rat. And who really wants to shave during vacation anyway?
I’m a fan of NIVEA’s line of products because they are great with sensitive skin types. I just tried a few of their newest products, which are great ways to clean up and get rid of swamp ass before a date night:
- NIVEA for Men Platinum Protect Deodorizing Body Wash – This 3 -in-1 deodorizing hair and body wash has a light citrus scent. Being a 3-in-1 means there are less things to pack when heading out for your vacation.
- For Men Energy Face Scrub – This is great for clearing away all the dirt you get on your face after a day in the parks and helps prevent clogged pores.
- NIVEA for Men Energy Lotion – This is one of my favorites to use after a shave. The lotion makes your face baby smooth and the SPF-15 protects you from the California rays.
Thanks goes to NIVEA for letting me try out their new products. They were also nice enough to provide a grooming package to give away to our readers. Just leave a comment below with your own date night tip to be entered to win.
Update: Congrats to Ben who is the big winner of the NIVEA prize pack. Thanks to all who entered.

Napa Rose is a favorite, but pricey. My wife and I like to visit the Blue Bayou. You can’t beat the ambiance.
And I know what you mean about sweating at the parks. We usually take a break in the day and head back to the hotel, which gives me a chance to shower. Walking around Disneyland can be a workout.

California Adventure has a few good restaurants for a date night. My wife and I have gone to the winery restaurant, which was nice. We’re going to give the new Carthay Circle restaurant a shot next.
There’s nothing worse than standing in line next to some guy with BO. More people should either put on extra deodorant or take a mid-day shower when they’re at Disney.

Our date night is pretty simple. We like to get a treat from the bakery (or fritters from New Orleans Square) and then watch the fireworks in front of the castle. It isn’t elaborate, but it is a nice way to spend the evening together.

We’ve gone to House of Blues in Downtown Disney a few times for a date night. It is worth keeping an eye on their performance calendar. They have some pretty big names come through.
