Disney experiences are always full of little surprises. When visiting Disney’s Aulani in Hawaii, you’ll want to check out the Aulani Menehune Adventure Trail, a high tech treasure hunt game that is free for guests of the resort. To play the treasure hunt, you use a special Disney cell phone which plays videos and shows interactive clues as you walk along the trail. At certain spots, you’ll see the scenery come to life when you answer a clue correctly.
The interactive hunt will seem familiar to anyone who has done the Kim Possible experience at Epcot. You check out the special cell phones at the Community Center (Pau Hana) on the bottom floor of the Ewa Tower. In one instance, the rocks in the pond submerge to reveal the outline of the Hawaiian islands. At another spot, the Hawaiian drums come to life (Tiki Room style) and play a song. There are also a few fire effects along the way.
The treasure hunt is best suited for kids who are a little older (pre-teen age) due to the difficulty in locating some of the clues. Younger children will likely lose interest after a while, because it can take some time to solve the clues before you get the next reward.
Check out this video of the Aulani’s Menehune Adventure Trail. You’ll see several of the rewards in action and get a feel for the types of treasure hunt clues.
