How good is the WiFi coverage in your home? If your family is anything like mine, upgrading to the ASUS ZenWiFi CT8 router might be the best home improvement you could make.
On any given day, our WiFi network is the lifeblood of our home. My wife usually has Netflix playing in the background. My son has an online chat running while he plays Minecraft with his friends. I frequently work from home and I’ll have several video conferences throughout the day. On top of all that, we have a home full of connected devices like a smart thermostat, Alexa devices, connected music speakers, internet-connected door locks, and an internet-connected exercise bike. We even use the internet to control our robot lawnmower. To put it mildly, we rely on a strong internet connection throughout our home just to keep things running.
Internet dead zones are a problem for many people because it can be difficult for the signal from a router to reach through walls and floors, especially if you have a larger home. Newer internet routers, like the ASUS ZenWiFi CT8, can solve this problem by broadcasting the internet signal on a few different frequencies (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz) and by using a technology called a mesh network.
A mesh network is ideal for larger homes because the system uses more than one place to broadcast an internet signal. The ASUS ZenWiFi system I used in our home came with two nodes and we placed one on each floor. The two nodes work together to provide perfect coverage to every corner of your home. ASUS says that the two nodes can provide 5,400 sq. feet of coverage, which we found was more than enough for our 4-bedroom home. You can add up to 5 nodes if you need to cover a larger space.
With this system, you are essentially future-proofing your home’s internet network. It uses a tri-band system that broadcasts 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks, which means you’ll have a speedy connection for all the devices in your home. It can support up to 4 Gigabit speeds and create three separate WiFi networks in your house, which is something I’ve only seen in commercial-grade products.
I’ve mentioned a few technical terms to describe how advanced this system is, but the great part is that setting up the ASUS ZenWiFi CT8 router was very simple. You just download the app and it takes you through a 1-2-3 process that gets everything connected in a few minutes. It really was as simple as plugging it in, tapping a few buttons, and then giving the WiFi network a name.
The ASUS ZenWFi also has a few features that will help keep your family safe while online. First, it has network security monitoring (powered by Trend Micro) that keeps an eye out for any unusual network activity. This is especially useful for connected homes, like ours, where you have several devices that are always connected to the internet. This service is included for free and provides always up to date protection for the lifetime of your device.
The ZenWiFi CT8 also includes some robust parental controls, like URL filtering and scheduling, that allow you to protect your family from inappropriate content and unhealthy Internet usage behavior. If you’ve ever caught your child watching YouTube after hours, the ASUS ZenWiFi CT8 can quickly put a stop to it. And if you want to block your child from accidentally visiting certain websites, it is very simple to do that as well.
We decided to test the limits of the ASUS ZenWiFi CT8’s coverage and had a little fun in the process. My son has a weekly video call with his classmates now that school has shifted online. He took this week’s call from our greenhouse so that he could show his plants to his friends. Most WiFi networks struggle to reach every corner of your house, and few are strong enough to extend outdoors. It was very impressive to see the ZenWiFi system providing a signal that was strong enough for a video chat from our backyard.
The ASUS ZenWiFi CT8 nodes have a sleek design that fits with the rest of your home. Sold in either white or black, the nodes look good on a bookshelf or desk and don’t need to be hidden in a utility closet.
For many of us, a reliable WiFi network is a must-have for our homes. With the ASUS ZenWiFi CT8, you can have peace of mind knowing that you have coverage in every corner and a system that will keep up with your internet needs for many years to come.
