It was snowing as we pulled out of our driveway yesterday morning. But within a few hours, our family arrived at Great Wolf Lodge in Grand Mound, WA and warmed up inside the 84 degree water park. It was a great way to have some fun together, especially when it was so cold outside.
As we entered the hotel lobby, we couldn’t help but notice the giant gingerbread house and Snowland decorations. The gingerbread house looked big in the photos I saw online, but in person the house is simply enormous.
For a $20 donation to Big Brothers Big Sisters, our family was able to eat lunch inside the gingerbread house. It was a truly unique experience and worth every penny. Inside the gingerbread house was a table large enough for a family of six. There was even a gingerbread fireplace inside, which added to the cozy feel.
Once inside, it took me a few seconds to realize the walls were covered in frosting and that the framed photos of Wiley the wolf, Brinley Bear, and Oliver were all made from sugar. The more time we spent inside, the more details we noticed like the unique cookie designs in the border and the cookie stars on the ceiling.
Our waitress, Princess, was incredibly friendly and even offered to take a few photos of our family. I later learned that the employees all take on holiday names like Buddy the Elf or Candy Man during Snowland, which helped explain why our server had such a unique name tag.
Last year, the life-sized gingerbread house was added to the special Snowland decorations and activities. Each of the Great Wolf Lodge locations have their own unique design for the gingerbread houses. The Traverse City, Michigan location even had Carter Oosterhouse from HGTV help with the decorating.
If your family is visiting Great Wolf Lodge during the holidays, I highly recommend this unique dining experience. The money goes to a good cause and you get a special memory with your family.
I recommend calling the hotel to make a reservation if you want to dine in the gingerbread house. There were a few open time slots when we visited, but the experience is popular and they can only seat a limited number of families inside the gingerbread house each day.
