Good things really can come in small packages, even when it comes to audio. Edifier’s S880DB speakers prove that it is possible to pack a lot of tech into a smaller footprint without sacrificing sound quality.
One of the joys of working from home, other than avoiding traffic, is that I can listen to music all day. Its just me and the dog, and thankfully Jack doesn’t complain when I play the same song a few times on Spotify. I don’t have anything elaborate in my home office, just a bluetooth speaker, which is why I was excited to try Edifier’s S880 speakers to see what I have been missing.
Edifier’s speakers have a compact design of 5.4 x 6.6 x 9.1 inches. I liked the size of these speakers right away because they fit nicely on my desktop without overwhelming the space. And the modern design made these speakers fit right in with the rest of my decor.
I mostly listen to music from Spotify and I stream that from my laptop. Because of this, I was very happy to see a USB input for the S880DB speakers. I plugged the USB cable into the docking station for my computer, and suddenly I had rich sound filling the space. Finding the USB input was an unexpected surprise that really made me happy with these speakers.
The S880DB speakers have several controls on the back so that you can adjust audio levels. You also have several traditional input options beyond the USB input that I mentioned earlier. I really liked that the name of the input displays on the front of the speaker, which made it easy to make sure I had the right audio source playing.
The system has four pre-defined EQ settings (Dynamic, Vocal, Classic and Monitor) which you can easily change using the included infrared remote control.
Each of the S880DB’s speakers features a 19mm titanium-laminate tweeter and a 94mm metal diaphragm midrange driver with frequency response of 55Hz to 20KHz. These are paired to an amplifier capable of 32W peak, 12W RMS per channel.
Edifier sells the S880DB speakers for $299.99, which is a reasonable price considering the quality of sound that you get from the small design. The onboard processor and amp give the speakers rich sound that will fill your home office, and the attractive design makes this a system you’ll be proud to have on your bookshelf.
