Knott’s Berry Farm has some new family attractions planned for the summer of 2013. The theme park is just a few minutes away from Disneyland and is a popular spot for Southern California residents. The new rides will help the park continue to draw in the crowds in the coming year.
The three rides be added along the Boardwalk area of the park in the the space previously occupied by the Perilous Plunge attraction. Although Knott’s has focused on thrill rides over the past few years, these planned additions are intended to be family-friendly.
Coast Rider
The first attraction is named Coast Rider and will be a wild mouse-style coaster. You can find a similar experience at Legoland California or on Goofy’s Fly School at Disney’s California Adventure. These small coasters pack in a lot of fun with the tight turns. I personally dislike wild-mouse coasters because you bump into the sides so much on the turns, but I know a lot of people who love these rides.
Surfside Glider
The second ride sounds like something my son would love. Surfside Glider is a swing-type ride that spins you around about four feet from the ground. It is just enough of a thrill ride to make it fun, but still tame enough to make it family-friendly.
Pacific Scrambler
The final ride is called the Pacific Scrambler and is a return of a classic at Knott’s Berry Farm. Years ago, the park had a scrambler ride in the Boardwalk area. It is nice to see this type of ride return. I remember taking a few spins on it back in the day and am glad my son can have the same kind of fun.
2013 Season Passes
Knott’s also announced pricing for its 2013 annual passports. At only $66.99 for a pass, you can buy a year admission to the park for less than a single day admission at Disneyland. If you purchase an annual pass now, you also get one free admission in 2012. It is a great value when you consider all that Knott’s has to offer.
