It has been a week since the Color Me Rad 5K came to Lake Sammamish and I am still cleaning the blue powder out of my ears. This was my family’s experience with a color run and we had a blast. Our clean, white shirts looked like a 60s tie-dye experiment by the end and my son’s hair was orange. Exercise should always be this much fun.
We were invited to participate in the 5K thanks to LG, makers of the new LG TONE Active bluetooth headset. Fortunately, the LG TONE Active was water and sweat resistant, so it could survive the colorful mess.
When we arrived at the event, there was a huge group already there dancing along to some Zumba routines. The high energy music was infectious and everyone was in high spirits for the 5K to kick off. Several people decided to pre-funk by dousing themselves with color packets or spraying each other with canisters of the color spray.
The color gel was a new element this year that added an extra layer of mess to the fun. As we passed through the course, they alternated the powder and gel stations. So you would get pelted with the cornstarch color powder and then sprayed by the color gel liquid which was sprayed from handheld water cannons. Our stylin’ LG sunglasses shielded our eyes from from the onslaught and our clothes looked rather colorful from it all.
After passing the finish line, everyone crowded around the stage for a few color blasts. The event organizers gave out boxes of the color packets and every ten minutes everyone would throw it into the air. It was a great photo op, provided that your camera was protected. I apologize for the potato quality of some of my photos. I used my phone and had it shielded in a sandwich bag most of the time. I didn’t want to risk bringing the DSLR for this one.
One of the best parts of the experience, other than taking a shower when it was all over, was getting an LG TONE Active. This bluetooth headset is durable and rugged, making it great for wearing during a workout. It fits snugly around your neck and the retractable earbuds make it easy to tuck the cords out of the way.
I liked that the TONE Active could be used for phone calls (it has a microphone and vibrates for incoming calls) and that the rechargeable battery gives nine hours of music time. The audio quality was great. Even with a compact design, the TONE Active has robust bass and crisp treble.
Thank you to LG for the invitation to join Color Me Rad during its Seattle stop. It was the most fun I have ever had while getting some exercise.
