You can see the snowflakes! I remember my child-like amazement the first time that I watched a football game in HD. Green Bay was playing at Lambeau Field in the midst of a snowstorm. And instead of watching the game, I was noticing that I could see the holes in the player’s jerseys, I could see the pebbling on the football, and I could see every snowflake as it danced across the screen.
I bought my TV nearly ten years ago and a lot has changed in that time. Televisions are thinner, have built in Wi-Fi and software for video streaming, and the new 4K TVs blow HD resolution out of the water. If you are looking for a new TV, or need a gift for dad, the new line of Ultra-High Definition TVs from LG are worth checking out.
So what is 4K resolution anyway? Simply put, a 4K TV will provide four times the resolution of the 1080p HD television in your living room. This is great for watching sports, but you’ll also find that family movie night never looked so good.
Newer TVs do a lot more than just broadcast cable programming. The LG Ultra-High Definition TVs have built in Wi-Fi, which means you can stream video from Netflix, Hulu, or YouTube. With the LG SoundPlate, you can connect your phone via Bluetooth and stream music through the television’s sound system. And somehow LG packs all of that into a system that is about as thick as a pack of gum.
The TV in the picture above is LG’s 55LN5700 Ultra HD 4K TV. It has a huge 65-inch screen and a built in 2.1 channel, 34-watt sound bar with an embedded sub-woofer. The screen of the LG 55LN5700 can get really bight, which is great if you are using it in a room with lots of windows. With my current plasma TV, I often run into situations where the ambient light from the windows makes it difficult to see the TV screen. With something like LG’s Ultra HD 4K TVs, you can easily adjust the brightness for whatever lighting conditions you have at home.
If you are considering a new TV for dad, here are a few LG products worth considering:
- The LG 55LN5700 is a Smart TV that comes with LG’s signature Magic Remote. You can stream content from Netflix, Hulu Plus and YouTube or from your laptop using LG’s Smart Share.
- The LG 55LN5400 is an LED, Full HD 1080p television with a TruMotion 120Hz processor (prevents blurry images when watching sports). It is also an Energy Star appliance.
- LG’s LAP340 SoundPlate is the main accessory for these televisions. The sound bar offers 4.1 channel surround sound, a built-in dual subwoofer, and Bluetooth connectivity.
- The LG BP540 is a Smart TV with built-In Wi-Fi, private sound mode, and is DLNA Certified.
When HD televisions first came out, I remember debating whether or not it was worth the upgrade. When you see it in person though, you really understand how much of a difference the picture clarity can make. The next time that you are at the store, stop by the electronics section and compare the displays. You will be surprised at how much better the 4K TVs look next to the competition.
