Now you can meet a talking and singing Minnie Mouse at Disney California Adventure.
This high tech character is part of a new show, “Minnie’s Fly Girls Charter Airline,” which is performed in Condor Flats near the Soarin’ Over California attraction. The show features Minnie and a four member singing group who are dressed like old-fashioned flight attendants. They perform songs from the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s.
The show is noteworthy because it is the first time that a talking Minnie Mouse with a moving mouth, face and sound will be in the Disneyland Resort. Walt Disney World previously used a similar Minnie Mouse character in one of its stage shows.
The downside is that the magic ends when the performance is over. When Minnie greets guests after the show, the character will have a static mask and will remain silent. That said, anyone who has ever met a costumed character at Disneyland will know that the characters are very expressive through their use of body language. So the lack of speech might not seem that odd after watching Minnie sing and talk during the performance. Maybe we should just tell our children that Minnie lost her voice singing?
Disney already uses a talking Mickey Mouse character in the Mickey’s Soundsational Parade at Disneyland and in the California Adventure show, Disney Dance Crew.
Disney is always testing out new ways to enhance the experience of meeting characters at Disneyland. Over the years, the costumes have evolved to allow more movement and to be more realistic. The addition of blinking eyes and a moving mouth is just the next step in Disney’s character evolution.
Have you seen the talking Mickey or Minnie characters? What did you think?
