Although construction has been underway for months at the Fantasyland Theatre in Disneyland, the mouse has kept quiet about the new show planned for the venue. We have just learned that the new show will be called “Mickey and the Magical Map” and will premiere in the late May or early June time frame.
The show will feature characters from several Disney movies such as the Jungle Book, Rapunzel from Tangled, and Mulan. The map will be used as a magic device to bring the audience into the various places. It sounds like the mouse house is taking a page from the Dora the Explorer playbook.
When Mickey and the Magical Map opens, it will be the first stage performance at the Fantasyland Theatre in several years. Previously, Disney had used the venue as a location for princess makeovers and as a character meet and greet spot. When the Fantasy Faire area opens in a few months, the princesses will have a new home to meet with guests right next to Sleeping Beauty Castle. The Fantasy Faire will also have an area for the premium makeover experiences that were so popular at the Fantasyland Theatre venue.
