As a kid, nothing was better than watching Saturday morning cartoons, even if it meant getting up early. I feel a bit nostalgic thinking about all those mornings, sitting in my PJs and with a big bowl of cereal, watching my favorite shows. And of course, Pee-wee Herman was a favorite for anyone from my generation.
It is easy to feel like a kid again when Netflix brings back the classic shows from your childhood. The Full House reboot was a lot of fun to watch with my family and I hear that they are bringing back the Transformers as well. My son and I have been watching the classic episodes of Pee-wee’s Playhouse on Netflix and we found Pee-wee’s Big Adventure was available for streaming.
The best thing, of course, is the new Netflix movie Pee-wee’s Big Holiday. It was great to see Paul Reubens return as Pee-wee Herman and even in HD he looks like he hasn’t aged a day. The movie has all of the classic elements that make a great Pee-wee Herman show.
It starts with a Rube Goldberg device that gets Pee-wee dressed and on his way. Breakfast remains Pee-wee’s favorite meal and he cooks up the best flapjacks at his job at the local diner. And of course, the adventure starts when Pee-wee meets Joe Manganiello.
The two hit it off and the actor gives Pee-wee an invitation to his upcoming birthday party in New York. This sets in motion the big adventure as Pee-wee crosses the country and meets plenty of crazy characters along the way.
I really like how Netflix is bringing back many of the classic shows from my childhood so that I can enjoy them with my son. Pee-wee’s Big Holiday was a lot of fun to watch and had the perfect amount of nostalgia mixed in. It is a great film for a family movie night, so order a few pizzas and make a night of it.
