At last count, my son has twenty-five Lego vehicles sitting on his shelf. We have helicopters, trucks, cars, trains, and about every other type of vehicle out there. Even with this armada, he still asks for more each time we pass the Lego store. I can’t blame him. Legos are a lot of fun.
Most of all, my son seems to enjoy the challenge of assembling a new Lego set. He carefully follows the directions and assembles some really complex stuff in a short amount of time. Sometimes the Lego kit includes “extra pieces,” but he always beams with pride when he finishes building his latest conquest.
My son was ready for something new, so we tried out Pley – a Netflix-like subscription service for Legos. You just sign up for a monthly plan and they send you a box of Legos to play with. When you are done, you mail it back and a new set of Legos is shipped to you. My son was over the moon when our first Pley box arrived.
The set arrived in a neat looking blue box. Inside, we found a mesh bag containing the pieces, the instruction book, a brick band (a neat looking bracelet for your child to wear), and a brick separator. Pley says that every set is cleaned with an eco- and kid-friendly sterilization solution, which gave me some peace of mind about the concept of sharing toys with strangers.
When you are done with the set, your child just dismantles their creation and places the bricks back into the mesh bag. Pley weighs the bag when it gets back and they say that you won’t be charged for normal brick loss. They also have a system where you can report any missing pieces so the next can be updated before the next child gets it.
If you want to give it a shot, Pley has a free trial where they will send you one set to play with for free for thirty days. The standard plan is $20/month for unlimited sets. If you want the advanced Lego sets (3,000+ pieces) there is a $50/month plan.
My son had a lot of fun building his first Pley box and I was impressed with the service. For children who love Legos, Pley is a great way to keep the experience fresh without breaking the bank for mom and dad.
