Cockroaches, stained sheets, dirty tubs, and bed bugs. Bad hotels are the bane of the traveler, especially the traveler with a limited travel budget. The prospect of ending up in a bug infested bed is something we’d all like to avoid, which is why online reviews teem with tips on places to steer clear of.
We searched though reviews on TripAdvisor.com to find the worst hotels in Anaheim. While there are many budget friendly options in Anaheim that will also give you a quality stay, the hotels on our list are anything but a bargain.
Anaheim Executive Inn & Suites ($59/night)
- “Wear black socks, Any other color turns black anyway….the headboard has stains on it……..and there are smeary brown stains around the toilet area, not IN the toilet bowl, around the toilet itself, on the lower walls. There was only one open outlet and it was broken, we could only charge one phone At a time or both phones and not watch tv….and the ice machine was COIN OPPERATED!!!!!” (TripAdvisor)
- “The bed hurt my back, there was gum on the headboard. The couch was ripped open with nasty stains on it. They had a small desk and the chair had brown stains all over it. The hot water took 30 mins to get warm because they said their pipes were bad.” (TripAdvisor)
- “We could have a down stairs room and we were told no…too many people live in the hotel. People smoking weed in the room next to us. The maid forgot to give us towels and blankets for our bed.” (TripAdvisor)
Motel 6 Anaheim ($46/night)
- “It was disgusting. The carpet was filthy, there were spiders in the bathroom and the whole place was just really dirty! We will NEVER stay at this Motel 6 EVER again. I recommend to all who read this go someplace else!!!” (TripAdvisor)
- “During our stay a cockroach crawled out from under my pillow and they were crawling on the walls. The shower was not cleaned and the sheets were wrinkled and there was a large blood stain on the floor and underneeth the mattress.” (TripAdvisor)
- “Bad smells from the heat/fan system. Needed to borrow a plunger for the balky toilet.” (TripAdvisor)
- “I thought I saw something run past my eye on my pillow. I jumped out of bed and yelled, “EWE! there is something in the bed.” My husband came and killed the bug. Then he pulled back the covers and the bed was FILLED WITH BED BUGS.” (TripAdvisor)
America’s Best Value Inn & Suites ($46/night)
- “The floors made my feet black, there were stains on the beds and floors and ceilings, the water temperature is inconsistent, and the pool was filled with gravel.” (TripAdvisor)
- “When we finally got into the room, it was absolutely disgusting. There are long black hairs all over the floor in front of the sink, mold in the bathroom floor, dirt and scum in the shower, the refrigerator had mold and mildrew in it, and the microwave was missing the plate and was filthy. On top of all that, the furniture is broken down and dirty and the paint was peeled from the walls. Its was terrible.” (TripAdvisor)
- “Of course, then I realized that all of those smashed bugs in the door of the fridge were roaches and one ran around IN the refrigerator while I was putting drinks in there. It was freaking me out. I tried not to touch much and put one of our own blankets on the top of the bed so I wouldn’t have to touch the bedspread.” (TripAdvisor)
- “When we returned that night after a long day at Disneyland, my husband went right to the bathroom and flipped the light…. yup, you got it… there were about TEN roaches running around! And outside of the bathroom, too. The worst came when I pulled the blankets down on the bed and a roach was IN THE BED!!!” (TripAdvisor)
- “There were cigarette burns in the blankets, and sheets (in our non-smoking room). Sticky bathroom floors, black mold around the bathtub, and peeling paint in the bathroom. As mentioned in another review no lightbulbs (one of three lightbulbs worked in the main room).” (TripAdvisor)
- “After check-in & visiting the room, we had to ask for all of our towels, the bathroom counters were left with hair and spots of something sticky on them, the rug had not been vacuumed, the entertainment center had a broken drawer front laying half on the floor, bathroom fixtures that had been broken and badly “repaired”, one very small shampoo foil packet for two people to use, we even had to ask for two lightbulbs as there were none in the lamps!” (TripAdvisor)
Rodeway Inn MainGate ($69/night)
- “Once we settled in the room, I saw a baby roach crawl on the nightstand. I killed it right away and waited to tell my boyfriend once he got out of the shower. Once he came out, two more crawled out of the fmini ridge in the room.” (TripAdvisor)
- “I immediately discovered mold all over the shower! The light fixture in the shower / toilet room and the sink faucet were covered in rust; and the carpets, comforters, and doors were covered in dirt. The door to the room looked as though it had been kicked in a few times and the frame was just nailed back in place.” (TripAdvisor)
- “They gave us keys to a dirty room, wallpaper is peeling and mold all along the window sill, hole in the wall and you can see through a crack in the bathroom door.” (TripAdvisor)
- “As we walked up the stairs to our room i looked down at what once must have been a hot tub and now instead, no water in it with the cover thrown in along with trash like beer cans and a possum. Yes, a dirty little possum eating his dinner. Then lucky us got the room next to the drug dealers whose clients came knocking all night long and our room stunk of all the pot they were smoking and came pouring out of their room every time they opened the door.” (TripAdvisor)
- “The bedspread in my relative’s room had vomit chunks on it and the sheet didnt even reach the end of the mattress. Ours had cigarette burns, hot iron marks and questionable stains.” (TripAdvisor)
- “Usually when I read terrible hotel reviews I think that the author is probably fussy, cranky, or otherwise prone to exaggeration. In this case, all the bad reviews are justified: smelly old carpets, ancient furniture, strange appliances connected by tangled extension cords, everything old, in poor repair and of dubious cleanliness. I have backpacked throughout Southeast Asia and Europe, and slept in many a fleabag hotel, but I’ve stayed in backpacker hostels in Bangkok that were far tidier and more inviting. Don’t do it!” (TripAdvisor)
- “We go upstairs to our room- only to encounter a door that has been KICKED IN and PATCHED back together. Seriously. We have the pictures to prove it. The door lock? Doesn’t work. The bolt? There is no hole drilled in the doorframe (where they had patched the frame up when the door was kicked in). The only functioning piece of security was a $2 sliding lock that any teenager could break.” (TripAdvisor)
