One of our biggest fears as parents is potentially losing our child in a crowd while traveling. A neat temporary tattoo product called SafetyTat can help by placing your cell phone number on your child’s arm.
When I worked at Disneyland, the joke used to be that there were only lost parents. The children always knew where they were. But it can be frightening when a family becomes separated at any large venue. You have that moment of panic, followed by a wild rush of adrenaline as you search for your child.
SafetyTats are temporary tattoos that read “If Lost, Please Call” and list your cell number. They were invented by Michele Welsh, a mom who would would write her cell number on her children’s arms as a precaution before visiting crowded venues. She would tell her children that if they were to become separated, they could show the number to an adult.
The idea for tattoos came about because of the need to rewrite the phone numbers throughout the day. Sweat and sunblock prevented the ink writing from lasting for extended periods of time, but the temporary tattoo idea keeps the number on there for up to five days.
Michele’s company offers many different options for tattoos, from traditional temps to peel and stick. There are options for names of the parents, allergies and other pertinent emergency info. A six-pack of the tattoos starts at $9.99.
They also have some cute “kisses from mom” or “love from dad” tattoos that remind your child throughout the day that their parent’s love them. It is a small thing, but a fun idea nonetheless.
I haven’t tried these out yet, but I plan on buying some to use during our upcoming Disneyland trip. It is a much better option than using those annoying child leashes and would reduce some of the anxiety should we inadvertently become separated.
