With Halloween just around the corner, I wanted to share some items from my archives about the Disneyland Haunted Mansion.
Many have wondered about the Haunted Mansion’s story. There are elements to suggest a story about a sea captain and a romance gone bad (the ghost bride in the attic is one clue). But the ride lacks the same type of tight story you would find in other attractions like Pirates of the Caribbean or even Splash Mountain.
Here’s the original story of the Blood Family Estate that would have been used if the Haunted Mansion had been a walk-through, as originally planned.
You can see some of the remnants of the Blood Family Estate story in today’s version of the ride. The portrait of the ghost with the bloody axe (near the 13 o’clock grandfather clock) and the ravens are some easy to spot items.
This article was one of my favorite finds when I first started digging into the Haunted Mansion’s history. I hope you enjoy it as well.
