As a child, I used to break many of my toys when I would take them apart to see how they worked. I was always interested in seeing the magic behind the plastic case. And while I lost many toys this way, I did learn how things worked, which is why I feel confident making many minor repairs around the house.
If you have an inquisitive child at home, Toy State’s GearHeads Mud Buggy is a great toy. Your child uses the action figure’s head as a wrench to remove wheels, activate the headlights, and to tear down and rebuild the vehicle. It is a neat toy design for children who are very hands on and like to pull things apart to see how they work.
Using the gearhead guy (I wonder if he has a name), I was able to remove the wheels and the suspension system from the buggy. It was easy enough to put it all back together and then to tighten up the wheels, using the gearhead guy again as a wrench. On the hood of the jeep is a socket where you can activate the buggy’s lights and some sounds with a simple twist of gearhead’s melon.
Because of all the pieces, this is one of those toys I recommend saving for an older child. First, small pieces and little kids don’t mix. But also, an older child can get more out of this toy because they can build and tear down the vehicle on their own. My five-year-old son could take the buggy apart, but needed some help from dad to put it all back together again.
