We will have several family members visiting over the next few months, which means it is prime time to share some family photos. Most of our images are either saved on our computer or phone, which can make it difficult to share unless grandma and grandpa are sitting right next to you. Even then, no one really wants to squint at a picture on a small screen.
We have an Intel powered 2 in 1 laptop and an Xbox 360 in our house, which is all we needed to do a photo slideshow on our family TV. To get the photos on the big screen, I just installed the OneDrive app on our laptop and then copied our photos into the OneDrive folder. If you install OneDrive on your phone and turn on the camera roll backup, you get 30 GB of storage space for free, which is more than enough for 10,000 photos. Another neat thing is that you can save video clips in your OneDrive, which can also be played back on your TV.
After that, I just fired up the Xbox 360 and opened the OneDrive app. You can download it for free from the Marketplace if you don’t have it installed already. From the comfort of my couch, I can then use the Xbox controller to select the photos you want to see or start a slideshow. Or if you want to control things from your Intel 2 in 1 computer, you can just use XBox Smartglass to choose what you see on the television screen.
This might sound like a geeky way to show the grandparents photos, but you would be surprised at how easy it is to do. You don’t need to be a rocket scientist to figure it out. And best of all, the whole family can easily see the photos on the TV instead of having to crowd around a smaller screen.
