There’s some good news for Pacific Northwest families who want to travel in style to the Happiest Place on Earth. Today, Virgin America began daily service from Portland to Los Angeles.
There’s a good reason why Virgin America has such a loyal customer base. The airline offers top notch service and their aircraft offer some of the best in-flight services around. The new Airbus A320 fleet for the PDX-LAX service has some amazing features that will make you wish your flight was longer:
- Mood lighting with 12 shades that adapt to outside light
- 110v power outlets, USB and ethernet jacks near every seat
- 9-inch video touch-screens and qwerty keyboard/remote controls at every seat
- More than 25 on-demand movies and 24 channels of live TV
- Kids’ entertainment selection with parental controls
- 3,000 MP3 library and the ability to create your own playlist
- a videogame library
- Interactive Google Maps so you can track your flight
- And in-flight WiFi
The in-flight entertainment options alone make this a great option for families. The flights are relatively quick, but the movies and games will be sure to keep your children entertained.
Mom and dad will have a great experience as well. Virgin America has some super comfortable leather seats that are a step above what you’ll find on other airlines. And you know that you’ll want to sink into one of those seats and relax during your flight home.
As part of the new route launch, Virgin America is offering a fare sale on the PDX-LAX route with fees starting at $135 each way. To take advantage of this offer, you’ll need to book at least 10-days in advance and travel between June 14-July 4, 2012.
In addition to the new Portland route, Virgin America offers direct flights from Seattle to Los Angeles. Virgin America flys into Orlando as well, so you can start your Disney vacation off in a first class way no matter which coast you live on.
A big thank you goes to the Virgin America PR team for letting us be part of today’s PDX launch festivities!

Virgin is one of my favorite airlines. It is worth paying a few dollars more to fly with them and not feel like cattle. Their seats are a lot more comfortable and the entertainment system really is pretty cool.

I agree with you. VA is one of the best airlines out there.

I saw that they have first class seating on the Seattle to Los Angeles route. Is it worth it to upgrade for such a short flight?
Shenni says
My wife and I upgraded to first on one of our flights and now she never wants to travel any other way. The Seattle to Los Angeles flight is a couple hours long, so I would say it is worth the cost. You get some extra pampering and the first class seats are actually nicer than what you would get in coach. You can recline them further and they have a footrest. It is a pretty nice experience and worth the cost if you feel like treating yourself.

We flew on Virgin Out of Seattle and I was impressed with how family friendly they were. The flight attendant was super nice to our kids and gave them extra snacks. And seriously, that entertainment system is a godsend. My oldest played games the whole flight while the younger one watched movies. Where was this stuff when we were kids?!?

I was looking at your photos and thought I recognized the mayor from Portlandia. Was he there for the press event? I wish that I could have been there!

I can’t say enough good things about Virgin America. They’re the best airline out there. Flying with them to Disneyland would have to be the best way to start your vacation (other than having Brad Pitt personally take you there).
